Drones Aviation The Russian military is replenishing new equipment. It is understood that the promising attack drone "Hell" has begun mass production and delivery. The product is an ultralight bomber designed to destroy ground and surface targets. What sets the new drone apart from many other similar models is its improved combat capabilities.

New content for the army

The promising attack drone "Inferno" is developed by Rustekdron LLC of the Moscow region. The organization was founded by a group of enthusiasts and will officially begin operations in the fall of 2022. The time that has passed since then has been put to productive use, and the company can now report its first major success.

Until recently, there were no reports about the Inferno project. Information about him was revealed just days ago, in mid-January. The management of Rustekdron presented the work carried out and its results to the main domestic media and revealed some technical details.

It is reported that the company has completed the development of Inferno products, conducted necessary tests, and brought the project into the mass production stage. The first batch of new drones has been sent to the troops and entered the special operations area protecting Donbass. We are already talking about hundreds of drones, but for obvious reasons their exact number is not named.

The Hell UAV is an ultralight bomber capable of attacking targets at tactical depth. For this purpose, he received a special release device containing several miniature "air bombs" based on existing ammunition. The simultaneous release of multiple bombs is envisaged, which has a positive impact on the strike potential of the drone. Measures were also taken to improve bombing accuracy and survivability in combat situations.

Strangely, the appearance of the new drone bomber has not yet been revealed. The use of this technology is also unproven. However, we can foresee that such photos and videos will appear in the near future, and the continued production and supply of drones will facilitate their rapid release.

Based on known data

Recent publications on Inferno products mention some of its tactical and technical characteristics and note its combat capabilities. However, other information is not yet known. In particular, the class and architecture of this UAV have not yet been clearly named, although known data indicate that we are talking about a helicopter with multiple rotor engine groups.

Judging from the characteristics described, the Inferno is available in diameters up to one meter, with corresponding rotor dimensions, etc. Power plants are probably built in the simplest way possible - based on electrical components. Therefore, there is a battery of sufficient capacity on board and a controller to control multiple motors. Inferno reportedly has a payload of up to 4 kilograms. Based on this, the total mass of the device is estimated to be 10-12 kg.

The flight performance characteristics of the drone have not yet been specified. Only the operating range of the unmanned system is publicly mentioned - 5 kilometers. After completing its combat mission or running out of battery power, the drone must return to its operator to prepare for its next flight.

"Inferno" has a remote control based on the FPV principle. There is a directional camera on the drone that transmits a video signal to the operator's glasses and ensures flight. An interesting innovation is a separate camera for the lower hemisphere. With its help, the operator must search for targets and conduct bombings.

The drone is equipped with a curiously designed ammunition release mechanism. It has nine slots for microbombs, as well as a release control mechanism. On command of the operator, three munitions are dropped simultaneously; the size of the ammunition load allows three such explosions to be carried out in succession.

The design of the release mechanism allows the use of different types of ammunition. These can be grenades of the VOG series in their original form, grenades with an additional handle, or weapons produced by the factory specifically for drones. The impact on the target and its effects directly depend on the category and type of ammunition used.
design potential

So far, all interesting information about the "Inferno" drone has not been disclosed. However, the available data allow us to draw hypotheses and tentative conclusions. There is reason to believe that this UAV has many important characteristics and is in some respects superior to other modern strike systems produced domestically and abroad.

The most important feature of Inferno is its relatively high payload capacity - up to 4 kilograms, which is several times higher than the payload of some common drones. Of interest is a solution with a release device with a unit for small ammunition. It allows you to drop multiple "bombs" at the same time and attack repeatedly. The vast majority of modern attack drones carry only one weapon and face understandable limitations.

The release mechanism is compatible with a variety of ammunition. First of all, grenades from automatic grenade launchers and under-barrel grenade launchers are considered aviation weapons and show a high lethality effect against "soft" targets. Specialized cumulative "air bombs" were also reportedly introduced, capable of hitting armored vehicles with even the most unprotected projections.

The company Rustekdron has solved the problem of controlling drones in an interesting way. For flying and driving, FPV principles and corresponding instruments are used. In this case, target search and ammunition release are carried out using separate cameras, thus increasing the achievable accuracy. The aiming camera purportedly allows you to bomb targets from level flight without hovering. Therefore, drones will not be easy targets for enemy air defense and electronic warfare.

Recent media publications have not discussed the problem of new UAVs resisting enemy influences, mainly of an electronic nature. Appropriate measures may have been taken in the project, but we shouldn't talk about them now.

The above performance characteristics raise some questions. Therefore, the range of "Hell" is still only 5 kilometers. This is enough to solve some combat missions, but more in-depth work is often required. Perhaps in the future, as the original project develops, the combat radius will be increased and the technical potential of the design will be more fully realized.

Initiative and effectiveness

Therefore, China’s domestic industry continues to develop and put into production new models of drones, and new players are constantly joining the process. The Rustekdron company has been operating for less than a year and a half, but hundreds of its products are already supplied to troops and used as part of special forces.

New companies in the drone industry are proposing and implementing all kinds of interesting ideas that are being tested in practice. Therefore, within the framework of the "Hell" project, more advanced principles of controlling attack drones and new devices for the use of weapons were proposed. It is foreseeable that these solutions will perform well on the front end and be widely used in various autonomous driving projects in the future.
